How to Create Your First Fiverr Gig, Step by Step

A Gig is your storefront and your scope document at the same time. Make the right client recognise the service, and make the wrong project walk away.

Quick answer

Create your first Gig, in brief

Prepare a focused Fiverr Gig: title, category, packages, description, requirements and gallery, all within the current official limits. A Gig is your storefront and your scope document at the same time. Make the right client recognise the service, and make the wrong project walk away.

Prepare the Gig offline first

Gigs can be created and edited only on desktop. Finish freelancer onboarding, then read the Gig policies, the Community Standards, the prohibited services list and anything specific to your category before you draft a word. Some categories are vetted-only. Some require standard package elements or a higher minimum price.

Draft every word and gather every asset in a separate document first. Comparing package scope and catching contradictions is much easier there than inside a live form.

Step 1: Title, category and tags

Fiverr starts your title with "I will." Finish it with a specific deliverable and one useful differentiator. Do not stuff in synonyms. "I will edit three captioned short-form videos for your podcast" beats "I will do professional amazing video editing."

Choose the category carefully. Once a Gig is published, its category cannot be changed. Add descriptors that describe the real service, and spend every search tag on something genuine. Popular terms that have nothing to do with the work are not worth it.

Step 2: Build packages with real boundaries

Where the category supports packages, you can offer up to three: Basic, Standard and Premium. Each one needs a price, a delivery time, a revision count and whatever service-specific elements the form shows you. Fiverr requires at least one revision option per package. Prices are set in US dollars, and category minimums vary.

PackageExample boundaryPurpose
BasicOne edited clip, up to 30 seconds, supplied footageA small complete outcome
StandardThree clips, captions and one visual styleThe most common client need
PremiumFive clips, captions, b-roll selection and project filesHigher scope, not vague "better quality"

Extras are for things only some clients need: extra length, rush delivery, source files, another concept. If every client needs an item, it belongs in the base scope rather than in a surprise extra at checkout.

Step 3: Write the description and FAQ

A Gig description runs to 1,200 characters and you get up to 10 FAQs. Spend the space in this order:

  1. Name the client and outcome.
  2. List exactly what is included.
  3. Explain your short process.
  4. State important exclusions or dependencies.
  5. Ask the client to message first when the project has custom requirements.

Use the FAQs on real purchase objections: what a revision covers, whether source files are included, who supplies copy or licensed assets, what happens when inputs arrive late, and which projects you have to turn down.

Step 4: Ask only for requirements you use

Requirements are what turn an order into work you can start. Ask for the goal, the audience, the exact content, brand assets, the technical format, references and any permissions the job needs. Only mark a question required when you genuinely cannot begin without it.

Never ask clients to paste passwords, payment details, one-time codes or unnecessary personal data. When access is essential, use restricted collaborator accounts or a staging system and explain the safe handover after the order begins.

Step 6: Verify and publish

Before you can publish, Fiverr may ask for personal or business information, phone verification and tax declarations, depending on where you live. Answer accurately. A submitted Gig goes through review and becomes visible once it complies. A Gig video can carry its own separate review status.

  • One service and audience
  • Correct permanent category
  • All relevant search tags
  • Packages differ by scope
  • Realistic delivery time
  • Revision definition in FAQ
  • Complete requirements
  • Original, readable gallery
After publishing: never promise a ranking position. Fiverr's search is dynamic and personalised. Improve relevance and client outcomes, then judge the actual data.
