Fiverr field guide

Fiverr from A to Z,
without the jargon.

Twenty-six practical concepts for clients, freelancers and publishers. Use the search or jump to a letter.

Account

Use one authentic Fiverr account and complete the correct client or freelancer profile. Protect it with a unique password and never share verification or recovery codes. If you are joining the affiliate programme, enter your real account type, traffic source and contact information.

Brief

A brief converts an idea into scope: context, outcome, audience, deliverables, inputs, technical limits, timeline, budget, rights and acceptance checks. A specific brief produces more comparable quotes and more objective revisions.

Custom offer

A freelancer can send a custom offer after a client initiates contact. Use it when a standard Gig package does not fit. Read the deliverables, price, delivery date and revision terms before accepting; the offer should capture every material promise made in messages.

Delivery

Delivery is the formal transfer of completed work through the order. It should include the agreed files and a short acceptance map. Freelancers should not deliver empty placeholders to stop the timer; clients should test the work against the written scope.

Earnings

Current Fiverr help says freelancers receive 80% of the purchase amount, including extras and tips, before taxes. Distinguish order value, clearing funds, available balance and the amount that reaches your bank after provider and currency costs.

Fees

Clients see a service fee at checkout; current Fiverr payment help states 5.5% plus US$3.50 on orders under US$200, with each separate payment potentially carrying a fee. Freelancers should plan around the platform share shown in current earnings terms.

Gig

A Gig is the listed service of a freelancer. It combines a title, category, packages or price, description, FAQ, requirements and gallery. The strongest Gigs sell one defined outcome rather than a collection of unrelated skills.

Hiring

Good hiring starts with an observable outcome and a shortlist. Compare exact service fit, relevant portfolio evidence, review patterns, process, communication and total value. A badge is useful context, not a guarantee.

Intellectual property

Confirm who owns or licenses every font, image, track, clip, template, dataset and source file. Keep evidence of permissions and check that the intended commercial use is covered. Neither a low price nor an AI tool removes copyright or trademark obligations.

Job post or brief

Some Fiverr experiences let clients publish or send a project brief and receive relevant responses. Describe the outcome and constraints without exposing passwords, private customer data or payment details. Feature availability can depend on the product and account.

Keywords

Keywords should express the real service and client intent across the title, tags, description, proof and packages. Stuffing unrelated popular words creates a relevance problem. Fiverr search is dynamic and personalised, so no keyword can guarantee rank.

Levels

Fiverr currently uses New Freelancer, Level 1, Level 2 and Top Rated statuses based on criteria that include Success Score, rating, response rate, orders, unique clients and earnings. Top Rated also involves manual evaluation. Recheck official thresholds because they can change.

Milestones

Milestones split suitable larger projects into defined stages with their own deliverables and review points. Use them only when the category and offer support them. Each milestone should create verifiable progress, not merely divide the invoice.

Notifications

Notifications help protect response times and deadlines, but they are not project management. Establish a daily routine for new enquiries, active orders, required client input and delivery dates. Respond meaningfully rather than sending empty acknowledgements.

Order

An order is the on-platform agreement created from a Gig package or custom offer. Requirements, scope, messages, extensions, delivery and resolution activity should remain attached to it so both parties share one factual record.

Packages

Basic, Standard and Premium packages should differ by quantity, complexity, speed or included assets rather than whether the freelancer works carefully. Compare units, revisions, delivery and rights instead of looking only at the three prices.

Quality

Quality means fitness for the agreed use. Define it with acceptance checks: file formats, dimensions, browser support, word count range, pronunciation, test cases or brand rules. "Make it pop" is feedback; it is not a measurable acceptance criterion.

Revisions and reviews

A revision aligns delivered work with the original scope; a new feature is added scope. A review records a genuine completed-order experience. Fiverr prohibits fake reviews, and neither party should trade ratings for extra work.

Success Score

Success Score is one performance measure in the Fiverr freelancer level system. Fiverr describes it as a longer-term view of Gig performance and client relationships. Improve the service process rather than attempting to manipulate the metric.

Tags and terms

Search tags help describe a Gig; legal and platform terms define what users may do. Review both the Fiverr Terms of Service and Community Standards before selling, buying or promoting. A tactic is not safe merely because it appears common.

Usage rights

Usage rights answer where and how a delivered asset may be used. Clarify commercial use, source files, exclusivity, editable formats and third-party licences before ordering. For brands, consider appropriate trademark checks beyond the marketplace transaction.

Verification

Fiverr may request identity, phone, tax or business information depending on the role and location. Complete it through the official account flow. Never send a password or one-time verification code to a client, freelancer or unsolicited support contact.

Withdrawals

Only cleared freelancer earnings are withdrawable. Fiverr currently lists options including PayPal and Payoneer routes, with location, minimum, timing and fee differences. Verify the live Earnings page and provider conversion costs before choosing.

eXtras

Gig Extras add an optional unit such as faster delivery, extra length or source files. They should not conceal something every buyer needs. Clients should include extras in the total-cost comparison; freelancers should define how an extra affects timing.

Your requirements

Requirements are the inputs a freelancer needs before starting: content, dimensions, audience, brand assets and technical access. Ask only for necessary information, use least-privilege access and never request payment credentials or recovery codes.

Zero off-platform payments

The Fiverr off-platform policy requires Fiverr-originated transactions to remain on Fiverr. Do not accept a cheaper external payment, invoice or messaging route. Keeping the work on-platform preserves the order record and applicable marketplace protections.
